Marshall Field & Co
Marshall Field & Co Sterling Silver Flatware Patterns
Marshall Field & Co was a large upscale department store located in Chicago Illinois. This huge department store established the craft Shop where hand wrought items were made and bore the Marshall Field logo. A large array of items were made from sterling, brass and bronze. But the majority of the sterling hand wrought silver items were made in the first half of their operation. In the later half of their operation, the Craft Shop “handwrought” items were only partially hand made. More than 3/4 of its items are sold through wholesale channel rather than its own retail.
The items produced by the Craft Shop were successful and popular. The shop became a training ground for quite a number Arts & Crafts silversmiths who would later gain importance in their own right.
